i find it interesting that when it comes to liking girls I’m just like GIRLS ALL GIRLS YES PERFECT GIRLS but with boys i’m like you must fit criteria 1-9 but 9 is optional only if you completely fill criteria 10-13 with a non-optional essay on 21st century sexism due by 5am
I don’t call that interesting. More like “prejudice” “discrimination” or “inherent bias”
could someone please come pick up their crying child
I went shopping with my gran today and we came upon the toy aisle. There was Guardians of the Galaxy action figures and merchandise on the end cap, so I stopped to tell her about it. I explained there was five guardians and the basics of who and what they were, as based on the movie. I got to Gamora last, because as I spoke of the characters I pointed them out. Gamora was last because I didn’t see any merch with her. She was on the packaging as the picture, but I saw no figurines of her. I explained to my gran that she was the only lady guardian and how she was pretty cool.
My gran got so confused as to why there was no merch of Gamora. To which I simply replied: “Because she’s a girl.” My grandmother proceeded to get outraged about the lack of female representation in GotG merchandise. As we neared the end of the toy aisle, I pointed out another example, in the Avengers. No Black Widow merch, or Hawkeye merch for that matter. She became outraged and as we left the store she asked why there were no female figurines or merch. I said to her: “Grandma, they’re women. No one wants to play with a female figurine or toy that isn’t girly. Barbies and girly things are okay, because they’re for girls. Boys don’t want to play with girl things, no matter how kick ass they are.”
She was still so confused. She said ‘It doesn’t matter if boys won’t play with them. The girls were part of the team, the show, the movie! Nobody cares what the little boys want. What about the little girls that want to be superheroes too?’
I told her I didn’t have an answer, but she was right. What about the little girls that want to be superheroes?
Today my grandmother vowed to never get my cousin Avengers or GotG merch for my cousin until there is better female representation. No matter how much he wants the toys.
